Leak details iBooks collections, PDF mailing and printing

Apple’s plans to bring folders to iBooks was detailed late last evening in a copy of a leaked user guide update. Referred to as collections, the approach will mirror that of other book apps and will let users make and rename collections of regular books and PDFs that can show on the bookshelf. The 9 to 5 tip showed that regular “Books” and “PDFs” categories will be treated as collections of their own.

PDF readers will specifically get the option to e-mail documents out using the standard iOS mail sheet as well as printing it to a supporting AirPrint device.

No timeframe has been given for the update that would switch on the new features, but the rumored release of iOS 4.3 in December is the nearest candidate. The release should be reading themed as it’s timed with the launch of News Corp’s iPad daily and may be Apple’s ideal opportunity.
