How to Share Your iPhone’s Data Connection Right Now

Don’t want to wait until iOS 4.3 becomes publicly available to share your iPhone’s data connection? There’s a way to do it, but you’ll need to also have a Mac handy, so it isn’t the most portable solution. Still, if you’re travelling with a group and your hotel doesn’t have Wi-Fi, or you’ve setup a multi-device mobile workstation on a train, it could come in handy. And since the iPhone 3G won’t be getting iOS 4.3, this could come in handy for users not yet wanting to retire

PocketPro Reconstructs Your Golf Swings on the iPhone

I’m with Mark Twain when it comes to golf: “Golf is a good walk spoiled.” That doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate some of its better points, though. The garishly patterned clothes, for example. And of course, the gadgets, of which the PocketPro is a great example. The PocketPro is a swing recorder, a black box for your golf game. It’s a tiny nylon clip that sits just under the grip of your club and uses a 3-axis digital gyroscope and accelerometers to measure your swing. It stores

A total of 16 percent of AT&T customers indicated they would switch to Verizon if it began offering the iPhone, in a survey conducted before this week's CDMA iPhone announcement. ChangeWave on Thursday released the results of a survey of 4,050 U.S. wireless customers, conducted just before this week's announcement that the iPhone 4 will arrive on Verizon's network Feb. 10. The survey indicates more customers want to leave AT&T than in any other poll dating back to June of 2009. Of those

Will iPhone’s Personal Hotspot Make the 3G iPad Irrelevant?

Verizon announced the iPhone’s ability to act as a personal hotspot Jan. 11, but yesterday’s release of the iOS 4.3 beta confirmed that the feature will eventually make its way out to all iPhones, minus legacy devices — carriers willing. With the hotspot enabled, you can share your data connection with multiple Wi-Fi devices, including the iPad, something which wasn’t possible through wired USB or Bluetooth tethering. I realized immediately that not only do I no longer need a MiFi, as

Verizon iPhone to attract 9 to 12 million new US users for Apple

Analysts predict Apple's expansion of the iPhone to Verizon in the US will net 9 to 12 million iPhone subscribers this year, nearly as many as AT&T attracted in 2010. A new report filed by the Wall Street Journal said that analysts are closely watching the iPhone's expansion, with "many" agreeing that Apple "will likely sell 9 to 12 million iPhones on Verizon's network this year." It contrasted that with estimates from Piper Jaffray & Co., which said AT&T sold 11.1 million iPhones
